Second Grade News

Sara Hamad

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahamatullahi Wa Barakatu

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

Welcome to Second Grade! I’m excited for the opportunity to get a new batch of students into the classroom and be your child’s second-grade teacher.  I’m looking forward to a productive school year in a strong Islamic environment.

My name is Sara Hammad and I have been teaching and working in schools for over 14 years.  I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree with a major in Language Arts and a minor in Social Studies from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  I student taught in a first-grade bilingual classroom, was a paraprofessional for a few years for the Dearborn Public Schools in all grade levels, taught Beginner Arabic K-8th, two years as a third-grade homeroom teacher, and another 2 years as a fourth-grade homeroom teacher.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child in reaching his or her full potential in Islamic attitude and personality, as well as academic achievement.  My goal is to challenge each student and set high expectations on an individual basis, and in the meantime, making instructional time fun.  Our younger generation has a technological, creative, and visual mindset that I only hope to discover hidden talents and ignite curiosity among them.  We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the upcoming school year, Inshallah.

I’m a strong advocate and believer in two key principles for students’ success: parental involvement and communication among parent-teacher-student.  First, I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.  I can be reached best via email atsara.sarsour@gmail.com .  I will also do my part by sending out letters and reminders on a regular basis to update you on what we have accomplished in class as well as any upcoming class and school events.

Second, studies have shown parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. With that being said, please feel free to participate in your child’s second-grade year.  Participation will also enrich our classroom experiences.  Helping hands are always welcome.

Looking forward to a wonderful and blessed year!
